BMW i3 2014 Review

Do you like to drive a nice, reasonably priced car? One such car is the BMW i3. BMW produced the i3, a battery-electric supermini automobile, from 2013 until 2022. The i3 is BMW’s first mass-produced zero-emission car. So, today we’re going to take a look at this mini-ride from CarGuide’s point-of-view. 

Exterior Design

Fog lights, LED daytime running lights, and halogen headlights are examples of front lights. It is evident to anyone gazing at the i3’s front end that it’s a small vehicle.

There are 19-inch alloy wheels on the side. Disc brakes are used on the back wheels and Disc-Ventilated brakes on the front wheels. The length is 3999 mm in total. Door handles with body color are visible. Additionally noticeable are the folding power mirrors and the indication.

There is a demister installed on the back windshield. There’s a small spoiler showing. In the rear, we can observe an integrated roof diversity antenna. There are washers and wipers on the back windshield. There’s a stop signal positioned high. It has LED backlights.

The i3’s hatchback body shape means that it should have an average ground clearance of 168 mm. The manufacturers have, however, stipulated a 140 mm ground clearance. This is known as sufficient ground clearance in most cases.

With regard to the boot, the i3 can hold 260 liters. It doesn’t have a loading lip. It is therefore quite easy to load and unload goods. If needed, the rear seats may be folded, and the boot can hold an additional 1100 liters.

Interior Design

In the driver’s compartment, there are two leather seats. They’re designed to be incredibly comfortable. Not even the tallest individual will have trouble fitting in. There is manual seat adjustment. There’s lots of headroom and legroom. There’s also a driver’s footrest visible.

The steering wheel is tappable and composed of leather. Additionally, it is telescopic adjustable. Moreover, there are multiple function options. There are obvious power windows. At first appearance, even the doors seem to be incredibly powerful. 

Door bins are available in typical sizes. There are visible cup holders, sun visors with vanity mirrors, grab handles, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an illuminated glove box compartment. 

Three leather seats can be seen in the passenger area of the i3. These chairs have movable headrests. There is enough room for legs and heads in the passenger cabin. Despite having three seats, the center seat’s cup holders make it challenging for three people to ride in. Nonetheless, two people can travel in comfort. The front seats have pockets on the back of the seats.

Performance

An electric motor and a lithium-ion battery power the i3. This produces 170 horsepower and 184 Nm of torque, and it has an automatic single-speed transmission. There is a rear-wheel drive version of this i3. In 7.1 seconds, the automobile can reach 100 km/h. 150 km/h is the maximum speed. 

Ride Quality

The ride quality of the BMW i3 2014 is good-enough for both the passengers and the drivers. The seats are comfortable, so you won’t face any problems while sitting for a long time. There’s enough headroom and legroom for taller people. Outside noises are barely heard from the inside of the car. The ground clearance is slightly low, so you will feel it when the car is crossing potholes or bad roads. But it shouldn’t be too big of a problem. 

Safety and Technology

To protect the driver and all people inside, side and head airbags are equipped.

Among the safety features offered on the i3 are the engine immobilizer, cruise control, traction control system, dynamic stability control, electronic parking brake, reversing camera, ISOFIX anchorage system, and park assist. The ABS safety feature is now present on all four wheels. Given these details, the i3 has been awarded a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
