Write Lane Rules for Cars in Bangladesh

A lane is a section of road marked with different signs. In lane-marked sections, cars and other vehicles must follow certain rules, which apply to each lane. Cars, rickshaws, bikes, buses, and pedestrians all move on the same road in Bangladesh, so traffic congestion is a daily problem. Following specific lane rules can greatly reduce traffic congestion and chaos.

Driving rules, traffic regulations, and lane rules may vary from country to country. Bangladesh also has its own rules and regulations in these matters. Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has imposed several laws and regulations for road safety and effective traffic management. Knowing these rules is necessary to ensure road safety. Violations of these lane and traffic regulations are punishable by fines and even suspension of driving license.

While driving on the road, we need to follow certain rules, one of which is traffic rules and lane keeping. Lane Rules for Cars in Bangladesh –

(1) Consider the difference and measurement of right and left lanes. Cars in Bangladesh drive on the right, but in most other countries cars drive on the left. Drivers should also keep in mind that slower vehicles, such as trucks, drive in the left lane.

(2) Different lanes, have different markings. So be aware of the different lane markings. Such as white or yellow lines, direction signs, parallel, cross, or broken lines. In between, you cannot overtake or change lanes on parallel lines. You can overtake on a broken line.

(3) If there is more than one lane in the same direction, use the appropriate lane according to the size of the vehicle. In such a situation, heavy vehicles should drive in the left lane and light vehicles in the right lane

(4) You must use signals when changing lanes. Again, to overtake the vehicle in front, move to the right lane. After overtaking, you should return to the main lane. Use specific turn lane signals when turning left or right, so that vehicles behind can understand your intentions.

(5) Be aware of some designated lanes for certain vehicles – ambulances, rickshaws/cycles, or emergency lanes. General vehicles are prohibited from entering these lanes.

(6) While overtaking must overtake from the right side and turn on the indicator. When you hear the siren, move to the right side of the road and return to the designated lane.

Lane Use Control Signals –

• Downward Green Arrow – means you can drive in the lane beneath the signal.
• Yellow X signal means you must prepare to vacate the lane beneath the signal.
• Red X means you may not use the lane beneath the signal.

A few more things to note –

(1) Pedestrians should slow down when they see a crossing lane, crosswalk, or cross lane. Obey traffic signals.

(2) Do not use horn unnecessarily. Use the horn for safety and to attract the attention of the surrounding vehicles.

(3) Use indicators when changing lanes and when turning. This will help other drivers understand your intentions.

(4) See speed limit signals on the road, and drive below the speed limit. Pay close attention to road speed breakers and sharp buck signals.

(5) Do not park on footpaths, no-parking zones, or on roads that may cause traffic congestion.
